A new direction for Infiniti.
Infiniti’s roster of luxury crossovers and sport utility vehicles is set to grow by one. The compact EX35, athletic FX35 and FX50 and full-sized QX56 will be joined by the all-new seven-passenger Infiniti JX crossover. It’s stylish, powerful and practical, delivering everything drivers expect from an Infiniti in a package that is inherently family friendly. Drivers know to expect the best from Infiniti, and the JX lives up to the brand reputation that precedes it.
Bold styling inside and out
Many of the crossovers in the marketplace offer room for the whole family and plenty of comfort, but they are boring to look at and equally tedious to drive. From the moment you approach the 2013 Infiniti JX, however, you realize “boring” and “tedious” don’t apply. Wearing the latest iteration of Infiniti’s elegant design language, the premium nature of the JX is dramatically communicated from afar.
Inside, it’s immediately obvious that the upscale themes carry over to the cabin. The seats are covered in rich leather, and the wave-shaped instrument panel is trimmed with accents finished in either a traditional Japanese-style Kasane Washi or Maple wood. Leather seating is standard, and you can choose available features like fully climate-controlled front seats and heated second-row seats. On cold days, the available heated steering wheel will be a welcome addition.
New conveniences make their debut
The 2013 JX is the first Infiniti model to feature the Infiniti Connection and Infiniti Connection Plus telematics features. The services offered include 24-hour Automatic Crash Notification, Emergency Call, Enhanced Roadside Assistance, stolen vehicle reporting, Remote Door Lock/Unlock, Alarm Notification, Maintenance Alert, Scheduled Maintenance Notification and My Schedule calendar syncing with Google Calendar.
The Infiniti Personal Assistant concierge service puts drivers in touch with live agents at the press of a button from within the car, or from anywhere via their cell phones. The assistants can provide directions, make reservations, find points of interest and even let you answer trivia questions. To give an idea of the convenience, a driver can call the Infiniti Personal Assistant, make a dinner reservation and then simply have the assistant send the driving directions to the restaurant directly to the vehicle’s Infiniti Hard Drive Navigation System.
Parents can also set up Drive Zone boundaries and Speed Alert, which can send text messages, e-mails or voice alerts to Mom or Dad when the kids drive outside the preset driving area or exceed the maximum speed threshold programmed into the system.
Roomy and practical
Not only does the Infiniti JX offer three rows of seats, the interior is roomy and innovative with segment leading overall passenger and cargo volume. Also, second- and third-row passengers enjoy better legroom than that offered by the larger Cadillac Escalade, and the second row offers a remarkable amount of flexibility. It’s split 60/40 and offers almost six inches of seat travel, giving you the ability to ideally balance rear legroom and cargo space, depending on the situation. The added bonus you get from this is that you can leave a child seat installed on the “40” side of the split and still move the seat forward to allow easy third-row passenger access through the wide door opening.
Both second- and third-row passengers enjoy reclining seatbacks, and the third-row seats are also split 50/50, allowing even more versatility in planning for cargo or passenger placement.
Powerful, yet economical
The JX is powered by a 265-hp 3.5-liter V6 connected to a sport-tuned Continuously Variable Transmission. The CVT pays dividends in smoothness in every day driving and, when in “Sport” mode, it can replicate the feeling of a traditional stepped transmission. Drivers can choose either front-wheel drive or Intelligent All-Wheel Drive. Expect fuel economy of around 19 mpg in combined driving and 23 mpg on the highway, according to Infiniti preliminary estimates. Another convenience is the Infiniti Drive Mode Selector, which gives drivers control over throttle response and shift programming to best fit four preset drive modes: Standard, Sport, Eco and Snow.
Spectacular technology and driver aids
A vast array of useful technology aids is offered in the 2013 Infiniti JX. They include Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Blind Spot Warning, Blind Spot Intervention and Distance Control Assist. Those are joined by the new Backup Collision Intervention system, which can detect approaching vehicles from either side of the JX while backing up. If one crosses your intended path, the system will first issue warnings, and if necessary, apply brake pressure in a bid to avoid a collision.
The remarkable Infiniti Around View Monitor system makes its way into the JX, but is enhanced even further. Around View employs a series of cameras at the front, sides and rear of the car to give drivers clear individual views of those areas, and it can stitch the pictures together to create an overhead (bird’s-eye) view of the car and its surroundings on the standard seven-inch dash display. In the JX, a new feature, Moving Object Detection (MOD), is added. When in the Top View, MOD can alert the driver if any other object, like another car or truck, is entering the displayed image area.
Attractive in-car entertainment features
Audiophiles will swoon over the 15-speaker Dolby Digital 5.1 Bose Cabin Surround system with Acoustic Waveguide bass tech, which is offered as an upgrade over the standard six-speaker audio system. Parents will welcome the available Theater Package, which includes a pair of seven-inch backseat displays, wireless headphones and a wireless remote to keep the kids happy on long trips.
